Second Life is starting to creep into real life. Stephen and I have a house there now - a nice one, with a water view and a hot tub he just put in. Not much furniture yet. I like to watch the sun set over the water, sitting on the edge of the house. When I'm leaving work, it's getting to where the easiest way to tell Stephen I'm enroute is to go in-world and IM him. He's building, landscaping, buying clothes... Not going to say WHERE here, because it's my alt and I'd like to keep that separate from my work account.
And every now and then -- maybe this is just a factor of being in SF -- I see people on the street that look so surreal they MUST be avatars. They can't be REAL. The guy wearing a bra and panties, knee-high boots, standing on top of his car singing for Tool tickets? Too weird to be RL. Must be SL. That amazingly beautiful, slender woman with the sexy walk and 8 thin dreads per ponytail? Looks like prim hair. Looks like an avatar.
I am a Linden now, so that probably skews my boundaries somewhat. Those racks and racks of machines we're maintaining and moving around? That's the world. Be careful with the world! If I do this, will it destroy the world? Actual very weird questions.
I will say this - if YOU are in SL, you should check out the current preview over the next week. People are doing amazingly creative things with flexible objects. My favorite is the field of "tentacles" that will reach for you as you walk through them. Fun and creepy!
