On another somewhat related note: I have completed two pairs of socks and a long sari scarf thus far this year. Three FO's. I have a Big Sack Sweater from SnB on the needles right now -- I'm about three-quarters through the front -- in lovely Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky. A fabulous red. Molly's sweater is still hanging around, too, as is the second gia-normous Stevie sock (hello, second sock syndrome). Oh, and I have some cotton/elastic variegated socks going as well. Wow. I thought I had nothing going on, when in fact I have a lot going on all at once!

It's all about the socks. And it's not just me. Check out this article in today's Boston Globe.

I gave away my first Ribby Cardi. See, it was always tight, and then when we washed it it shrank up just enough that it was crazy small. Too small to be comfortable. So I gave it to my friend Danielle, who is tiny and had admired it when I wore it to work pre-shrinking. She seems to really like it. It's the right length and fits a bit loose on her as well, which suits her overall "look".

wow...that's awesome!!!! i find it hard to give away knitted items that are larger than a scarf :/ go you!

First post-Stitches project is now complete. A drop-stitch scarf from one skein of this. It's probably 8 feet long with the fringe -- maybe I went a bit overboard on that one. Possibly a pic later, but I still owe a Ribby pic, and a stash pic, and probably some other pics. I finished two pairs of socks last weekend - the green ones for Jamie's birthday (he's wearing them today and seems to be absolutely in love with them) and those red/grey/blue maxi-ringel's I've been working on for me. My WIPs are just running out. I still have the Molly sweater... Ah, the Molly sweater. Yes, it will be lovely. And very warm -- like, you'll only wear it when it's pretty darn cold. And bulky. Just clear out a drawer now, chica. But it is also possibly the most boring thing I have done in some time. More boring than the Ribby, and that takes some work.

Well, time for lunch. Maybe pix after I get a USB hub. The new iPod Shuffle is now taking up the port where the camera once plugged in.

This one's for you, Karrie.

I know you said it was for Karrie, but I was feeling left out, so I played too. Results posted on my blog.

I'm perplexed by Molly's Weather Pixie. She always seems ruefully underdressed for the temperature.

Comments:
I've noticed it as well. I just figured that Tamsin has a different idea of temperature appropriate garb than I do. =)

Click the linky to see a very geeky but interesting (to me) analysis on how Google Maps works at all.

I'm so glad you investigated this thing further. Now we know!

For some reason, I find it comforting to remind myself that not all conservatives are completely insane. Honestly, with some of conservatives, I simply disagree with them, which just means we analyze the same data and come to different conclusions. There are anti-war conservatives. There are anti-deficit conservatives. They do exist. Take this article from "American Conservative" magazine: Hunger for Dictatorship. I'm sure that I don't agree with this guy in lots of ways. But he makes several well-reasoned points here. Though I really couldn't articulate that gut worry I have had for some time, he covers it well -- Fascism seems to be finding a foothold in America. And it makes me scared.

I have a feeling that in my very near future, Google Maps will be as indispensible to me as online banking. It is beautifully done in DHTML -- just gorgeous and smooth as can be. Check it out.

It has to be satire. They're the same guys who had the Barbie Linux distro before. Excellent work, though. Especially on first reading.

Oh. My. God. I really really hope this is satire. Talk about someone who doesn't get it. Just try not to laugh when you read this tripe. DeVry graduates, this guy is giving you a bad name. First of all, it's the iPod SHUFFLE that's the size of a pack of gum, you nitwit. Then there's all the other stuff he just doesn't get. He can't install a Windows copy of MS office. He claims that since OSX doesn't come with a registry cleaner, it must be vulnerable. -- Can't you just hear my teeth grinding? -- But I must admit, the end of the review is the very best part. Allow me to quote:
When I consider that a good deal of my time is spent running applications like Disk Defragmenter, Scandisk, Norton AV, Windows Update and Ad-Aware--none of which are available for the Mac platform--it doesn't make sense for me to "switch" to a Mac at this time.
You freaking dumbass. You don't need to waste your time running crap like that when you have a Mac. Get a clue!

Deep breath now. The best part will be when I put this up on the fridge here at work. <grin>

Yeah, Molly, but you're just a silly girl. Not a real engineering student like them.
