Nothing like a nose-job to get your day going. Natasha is now quietly snoozing in her travel case on my desk. Zzzz... I could use a nap, too.

And now I have a live turtle on my desk, to boot. At least, until I take Natasha to the vet.

No wonder Californians feel all healthy. It's the damn cilantro. You can't get away from the stuff. They put it in everything!

Tomorrow is "Take Your Turtle To Work Day". For me, anyway. Natasha has a vet appointment so they can trim her beak. It's gotten overgrown, and makes it hard for her to eat now.

I just counted thirteen turtle-replicas on my desk. Thirteen. Including drawings, models, magnets, stickers, polaroid pictures.... That's a lot of turtles. It also includes a Fusco Brothers comic from today, which is turtle-themed.

Also, I was back on the DDR last night. Thought I was going to die. I forgot how challenging that third workout series is!

I do enjoy Kurt Vonnegut.
If you want to take my guns away from me, and you’re all for murdering fetuses, and love it when homosexuals marry each other, and want to give them kitchen appliances at their showers, and you’re for the poor, you’re a liberal.

If you are against those perversions and for the rich, you’re a conservative.

What could be simpler?
Also, Breakfast of Champions was a very entertaining book. Beaver references and all.

Stop drinking whatever you're drinking and read Jon Stewart's WM graduation address. Seriously. Don't drink anything while you're reading it. I'm telling you this to protect your keyboard.

Comments:
Okay, this is seriously, one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Ha-ha. It's not just me playing DDR for the calorie-burning benefits. Though I sure haven't lost any weight doing it, it is fun. I like doing it at home barefoot, though, since my big ol' piggies miss the arrows otherwise.

From the article: "'There's something about not having to shop in the men's section anymore," she said."

LOL. Recently JR & I went shopping for some clothes for him. I was browsing for a new belt for me. JR wondered why I was looking in the men's section. I pointed out (beyond the obvious ;)) that men's belt's are A) cheaper and B) have simpler designs that I think look better with jeans. I took him to the women's section were belts were 29.99 + and found an identical belt in the men's section for 19.99... IMHO, even if, uhm, when, I don't have to shop in the men's section I probably will.

I love typographical errors:
Specious house on over a quarter of an acre land.
So, according to dictionary.com, the house either (a) Has the ring of truth or plausibility but actually fallacious; or is (b) deceptively attractive.
At that price, I'll go for neither.

It's one of the worst things I've ever heard. Except it just keeps getting worse and worse. I feel so powerless. Americans, in general, want to be the "good guys". I know I do... but I can't pretend that things like this aren't happening. And neither can the rest of the world. It makes me feel so ashamed. I love this country. But I'm sure not proud of it these days. Nor can I see a way out.

I retract the previous statement about grey hairs. I pulled one of them out. They're just growing in much more slowly than the others. Damn.

Comments:
LOL. Actually now that I think about it, I wonder if you'll go grey-blue or grey-white... Ah, time will tell.

Maybe I'll end up super-grey and hyper-allergenic, like Bonnie. <grin>

I have grey hairs. A lot of them. I just noticed it. Well, they're actually bright blue hairs, all the way down to my roots (which are a few inches long now). I can't freaking believe it. I mean, I'm not sad or angry about it or anything. But they certainly were not there when I started down the crazy colors path. Weird...

I am NOT getting the same thing for my 10π calculations, BTW. I guess since I did it by days and you did it by months they're different. But why are they so different? See, I went this way:
10π = 31.45927 (figuring that was enough on the significant digits). Then, since this is a leap year -- .45927 * 366 = ~152. 152 + 27 (to account for the offset from the beginning of the year) = 179. And the 179th day of this year is 27 June.
It still confuses me.

Comments:
I think our calculations are so different because of the methologies used are different. The leap year didn't occur to me & since a birthday is celebrated every year on the same date regardless of leap year, I think that's still valid. I chose to based my calculations based on dates of the months of the year as opposed to number of days in a year, which accounts for the differences in our calculations. You should do what ever works for you. After all it's really all about the pi. =)

Well, I guess that answers that question. Enterprise will live another season. Probably.
On a completely unrelated note, I went out with Adam at lunch and got good and drunk. On a not-unrelated-to-drinking note, I still haven't heard from the doctor yet. Damn.

Comments:

My 10π Day is June 27th. Is it unethical to hold a party when your husband is away?

Comments:
Okay, no it's not unethical, but technically your 10pi day and your not going to believe this, but it's May 26th. =)
Proof:
10pi = 31.41592654 minus 31 - .41592654 and if 6mo = .5 then .41592654 = 4.99111843078 months. 27 of 31 days in Jan = .8709677419 so add 4.99111843078 + .8709677419 = 5.8620861727 which is May. and .8620861727 of 31 days in May is 26.72467113537. So it's the evening of May 26th.

I'm getting a second opinion. Soon. I'm picking up my films this week and taking them over to another radiologist recommended by a FOF. Hopefully, I'll have this weight off my shoulders soon!

We did release that beta after all... and everyone's gone this week. So far, it's relatively quiet, but I haven't checked tickets yet.
I saw Troy on Friday. For the love of Mike, if you have any appreciation for the male form in its most beautifully distilled shape, get thee to the theater! Total beefcake-a-thon. I will not comment on any of the, uh, adaptation choices that were made until I know that Molly's had a chance to see it, though.

Comments:
Good grief, woman, you left me quite a bit to comment on today. I'm on my way out to school now. But I saw Troy on Friday. More later

A few interesting things. ONE: blogger seems to work better with FireFox than with Camino. However, we'll see if this changes with the new release of Camino that is imminent? Already out? TWO: I'm going to a baby shower today. THREE: Max and Shannon's daughter was born on Stevie's birthday.

Comments:
Wow, congradulations Max & Shannon. Though I suppose Stevie is slightly less impressed. =)

We were planning to do a new WNV beta today... But now that we've read Karen's horoscope:
CANCER June 21-July 22
You're under pressure to move forward with a venture. However something inside you says the time isn't right. Heed your internal clock.
Ack! Will we release a beta? Stay tuned...

Back at work today. I took yesterday off because I managed to hurt my neck again... I'm not entirely sure how I keep doing that, but I'm inclined to think that there's something about the way I'm sleeping (too many pillows?) that is causing a pinched nerve. And it hurts. And I can't turn my head, so I look like a freaking Cardassian when someone comes up behind me.
And with that dorky Trek reference... Enterprise is actually not a bad show. I mean, it's not amazing, but considering it's on UPN it's not bad. Especially lately. Lots of actual fighting, reasonably "important" characters getting whacked. I wonder if it will survive another season?

Going home now... I know it's not really time to do so, but I'm just wiped out. Also, I've done just about all I can do for the moment. If something comes up, I'll get called back in, but other than that I'm taking the day off! Hopefully, a little rest will fix this headache. Probably allergies.

Also, I am Madurai's ub3r-1337 WIEF!!!1 Because I'm sending him back to Dallas for the Mini-Con. Oooh, what a lucky boy he is! He'll also take some time to see his folks while he's there, too.

Comments:
Oh yes, you are ub3r-1337 WIEF!!!1 The boys have been debating (lamenting) whether or not Madurai would be joining them for weeks! Hazmatt announced it last night. (much in the same fashion as your wrist surgery ;))

I think I'm finally going to get some reasonable web presence going this summer. Actually use some of those domains I've been hoarding all these years. I might even see if Stevie wants to use something to build up bigfathater.com. We'll see.
Any takers for a geekery.org email address?

Lemme make something very clear right now... I am not remotely politically or socially conservative. At least, not in the broad spectrum of things. Maybe a little bit when you compare me to those around me -- the über-lefties that inhabit Berkeley. Now, OTOH, my handsome husband is a law-abiding anarchist, if you can have such a thing. He will follow any law, no matter how silly it is, but he isn't a fan of having all those laws in the first place. In DH's world, people don't need to be protected from themselves. He's even more confusing to others than I am, when they discover this about him. I mean, it's not seemly to discuss politics in polite company for my southern boy.
That refusal to discuss such things probably makes a big difference in the harmony of our marriage. How can we fight about it if we never talk about it? I guess we can agree to disagree without even discussing some of those things.

Actually... The new doctor says that with this new arthroscopic procedure (as opposed to the open procedure I had before), the ganglion won't grow back. He's going to be able to whack off the stalk that it grows from while he's in there.
Well, back to the grindstone. Supposedly, there will be a beta either today or tomorrow, but I need to get it together to make that happen!

$3500 That's the max out-of-pocket expense I'll face if I get wrist surgery. Not all at once, but in payments. And maybe less than that, but not more.
Any opinions on this?

Hmm, new format, huh? AND I get to voice opinions. ;)

Well, *after* talking to you, I know a little bit more about it. It is something you need to have done. IF you can spread the cost out a bit to ease the impact of the payments, well, then so much the better. Too bad there isn't a way to keep the damn thing from growing back.
