Coffee... Yes... Coffee will put them to sleep... Oh, I mean, "Coffee will wake me up!"

Hopefully.

I'm absolutely distracted today. One, I'm very sleepy. Not sure why. No really good reason for that. Two, there's a ton of new work for me to do on The Evil, and it's overwhelming on its own. Three, there's a ton of tickets in support, and they're short two people for the next few days.

Where to concentrate my efforts?

Add to all this the fact that I'm in the boring(ish) research stage for this part of The Evil, and I'm not particularly motivated. Makes it difficult for me to get going.

I swear, I'm going to just upgrade Molly's blog. Now it's advertising car stuff. That's just crazy.

Oh, my dear $deity. This is probably the worst headline I have ever read in my life. No, I'm not trolling the soccer pages, but it was sent to me.

On a MUCH brighter side, I heard from the former landlord this morning and she has managed to get a tenant for JULY! That means we get our last month's rent AND our deposit (~ one month's rent) back in a few weeks. That will far more than offset the cost of my little DMB trip to Dallas in July -- even with buying tickets for everyone to the concert. Plus, I might be able to swing the hotel for the aunts. Wouldn't that be nice?

Email to your blog is back online! That, combined with the return of a working BlogThis makes me a happy chica indeed.

This is an email test. Does it work yet?

It's 97 here and only 77 in Dallas. Live it up, y'all.

I also saw the Bushman video. Damn, that boy is crazy, and Jill is a saint.

Some days, I wish I smoked. No, really. Some days, it just doesn't pay to be a non-smoker. You can go outside for a few moments, away from everyone else, with this ritualized behavior in which you can find comfort and soothe your addictive need. I feel like I'm jonesing, but I don't have any (chemical) addictions. What could be the source of this jones? What's the elusive addiction I don't know how to assuage?

OMG, how could I have forgotten? Tomb Raider came out today. It's pretty, but very different from the previous (non-PS2) versions of the game.

They seem to have gotten my blog moved over to the new system... Which is a very good thing. Hopefully, they won't eat Molly's blog again. <grin>

I was up until 2AM to do it. But I did finish Harry Potter 5. I was very pleased to see how well Neville comes off in this one. No more spoilers here.

532. That is the page I have reached in the new Harry Potter book. But, alas, I must stop for now, and get down to BBQ'ing some tasty pork ribs. It's probably for the best that we have some friends coming over to make me stop reading for awhile.

A few notes. One, the upgrade on my PB took forever, but it's finally done and it went off without too many problems. None that were significant. Two, we are now the proud owners of our very own Buh-Booper, and it is a delight.

In fact, I'm somewhere in the vicinity of disgustingly happy as of late.

Doing the backup boogie. That's right, I've decided to take the plunge and finally upgrade to 10.2.x. But not before I finish a thorough backup of my hard drive. It's taking forever.

Forever...

I noticed that Molly's blog has been moved over to the new system, whereas mine is still on the old system. I wonder why and how long until they're all moved over?

And how does Blogger make any money, anyway?

I sent my dad Google's job page. If he's going to have to move cross-country, at least he can go somewhere better than Raleigh. Not that there's anything wrong with Raleigh, actually. It's very warm, but not worse than Dallas, and quite lovely. But the corporate climate won't be as pleasant, I suspect.

Tragedy strikes. Maybe not tragedy per se, but still hard-core suckage.

My dad's being either transferred to Raleigh to work for the parent company, who has not shown themselves to be particularly trustworthy, or he's being laid off outright and has to look for another job. In this economy. At age 50, with 30ish years of experience, in a market where they want fresh (and cheap) blood. That freaking sucks.

That's it. For the rest of the month, I'm going to the gym twice a week. No more than that; just twice a week. Then, in July, I'll increase that to three times weekly.

That's all there is to it. That is the sum total of my goal. For now. I figure that because it is so easy for me to get discouraged, it's in my best interest to start with small goals that are easy to achieve.

First off: Since Molly referenced the "Speed Racer" dream in her blog, the ads are now showing car racing schools at the top. I should just spring for the $10 to get rid of those ads... In other news, I had the "ohmygodi'mbackinhighschoolandit'sfinalsandidon'tknowmyschedule" dream. Again. I have it something like once or twice a month. This one was full of appearances by former classmates: AJ, LarryJames, Lan, Heather Fitzgerald, Amy Mayo... Lots of them. Kind of crazy how much detail there was. And, of course, I not only didn't know my schedule but I also had managed to skip the class for all but maybe the first week of the semester. My chances of passing the class were not good. But on I went, looking for the class, taking the test. I usually wake up about the time the tests are passed out. I guess it's the equivalent of hitting bottom in a falling dream.

I spend an awful lot of my time not having a clue. Pure research, I guess. I go, look into something that I don't know anything about, find out as much as I can about it in a reasonable amount of time -- not to be an expert, just to investigate whether or not to pursue it, and then possibly work on implementing a prototype of that technology into The Evil. But it adds up to me spending most of my time reading, surfing, and just thinking.

Truth be told, it feels a lot like loafing around, except maybe the prototype-generation phases. So I vacillate between exultation (DAMN! This is SO COOL!) and guilt (DAMN! I should be doing some real work.).

After considerable research... I have decided not to pursue implementing SVG in The Evil. However, I might still conform some of the information I need to save in SVG format (which is essentially structured XML).

My, my. Things have gotten a bit ugly all over. The CF board I read has turned into a free-for-all "what's wrong with you people that you don't like my little Tommy who is perfectly well behaved at all times" fest. And now the sexism talk on Systers... People are just itching for a fight.

Given that stupidity is a major symptom of this illness... perhaps I ought to wait another day before trying to teach myself XML.

I have managed to infect the office with my evil disease. Or maybe, it's just a cold. But I'm the first one who had symptoms, so I feel guilty about the illnesses of others. BAH! The primary symptoms of this cold are (a) snot; and (b) stupidity.

On the bright side, I love the new house. Love it. Love it.

But before I go... I thought that Gollum's acceptance speech at the MTV Movie Awards was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Ever.

YAWN! Put pix of the new house up on the .mac homepage a little bit ago. I'm definitely allergic to something that's in bloom right now, but hopefully it will pass soon. It's really lovely outside, and I think that I'm going to go home soon because I'm still a touch on the puny side of things.

How much drama can one girl take? But, amusingly, I'm basically taking it in stride. Go figure. I'm adding better error-handling into The Evil this week, since it mostly just requires a "find and replace with better stuff" mentality as opposed to a "create new stuff" mentality. I'll be ready to create new stuff next week.

What a pain in the ass. Someone got hold of Stephen's credit card number for the checking account, and has run up $1200 in bras, wine, and cosmetics. I cancelled the card, but it is still very disappointing.

High Drama. High Drama all over, actually. Seems my father has signed a lease and is moving out of the house. He seems... resigned to it, I suppose is the only way to describe it.

Actually, I think I know why I have the headache. I can smell that "dry cleaner" smell on my shirt. You know the one I mean? That chemical smell? I think that because it's so warm it's releasing more than usual, hence the headache.

Going to a catalogue tradeshow in the city this afternoon. Then, home early for more packing up. I can not WAIT to get the hell out of that other house.

Oh, how weak I have become. It's about 80º in here and I have a headache. It's making me quite bitchy. Just waiting for that Tylenol to kick in. . .

If I grind my teeth anymore, they'll be down to little stumps. Spoke to our lovely and fabulous neighbor last night -- the one at the house we're moving from. She says that soon-to-be-former-landlord (STBFL) has caused problems for every tenant that has lived there. That STBFL has threatened to call the city on them if they try to "mess" with her, disputing some remodeling that was done in the neighbor's basement 10 years ago. That she ran off the Ethiopian restaurant that was on the corner before the one that's there now. That STBFL is, in short, a bitch, and that the little girl innocent act is a load of crap. So there it is. Y'all were all right. She's a pushy, vindictive, mean person, who will do anything to get her own way and has managed to intimidate or dissuade all former tenants from doing anything about it. Benefit of the doubt has been recinded. Wednesday morning, I'm going to write her the Open House update and tell her that I'm not willing to show the house anymore. That if she doesn't return my deposit by 15 July, I'm going to sue her. And Thursday morning (after we get our stuff out), I'm calling the city. But I need to give our new landlord (NL) the heads-up first. I don't want STBFL calling NL and trying to make things difficult for us. And she will. I need to talk to Jacquin about all of this before I go any further, though, so that he knows what to expect.
