I am not going to the Rhea-and-Ti-Fred-Soup-Kitchen tonight, though not because it will be a soup-free affair. I'm not going because I have a previous engagement at the Mel-o-Dee... and because sometimes a girl's just got to get away from her coworkers, no matter how fab they may be.

Blah blah blah... Okay, a few things of interest (to me, at any rate). I did some "stash enhancement" last weekend at Article Pract and managed to essentially blow much of my play budget... but look at what I got here. In titanium, grenadine, and noisette. The gold one is knitting up nicely into a skinny scarf for a Christmas present. I also got some sock yarn, which looks like this:

The problem? I've never knitted in the round before. Ever. Nothing. And though I tried a few times with this on Sunday, there was no love for me on this one. I need to try with something fatter first -- not on 2's. Though, based on Miss Karrie's latest post, maybe she'd be willing to help me figure out the error of my ways? Guess I'll find out tonight... and I'll take the sock yarn, the teeny dpns, and some bulker practice needles/yarn. Just in case.

And while I'm here and procrastinating, just what am I working on right now? I have the skinny gold scarf, the very end of Shirley's birthday present wrap, some denim baby booties that I'm waiting for a package from my sister to complete... long story on that one... my cardigan that now has a back and two sleeves but no fronts. I also have stash for my Audrey, two more skinny glitter scarves (if I decide to go that way with the Crystal FX), and the sock yarn. And dishcloth yarn. Two or three balls of cotton yarn floating around for those. OH, and a little ball of pretty bluish baby cashmerino in case I decide to make the simple garter stitch booties again. I have leftovers galore from other baby booties made in the last year... maybe I need to make some striped booties to use them up?

Grr... Sometimes, I read other people's knitting blogs. It's interesting to see what other people are working on, their FOs, etc... but at times it makes me feel all icky, too. First, I'm a competitive person (though probably not as competitive as MoMo, based upon my "teach the sister to knit" experience!) and to see people who can do such amazing things both inspires me and makes me feel sad and lame at the same time. See, I want to do cool stuff like that! I will someday, I know, but it's going to take time for me to gain more experience. Then, there's the fact that they say "I made this in a size small..." So of COURSE they can finish it much faster than I could. I'm making something like 75% more material! And, no, I'm not bashing the thin... No, I am not. Thin people -- good for you! You get a lovely shortcut in this regard, and I'm not disparaging you for it. I'm disparaging ME for it, which is completely different. <rimshot> Seriously, though. If I made a sweater for me, then the identical sweater for my sister, it would take something like two-thirds the time at most to complete hers. Feh. I guess I just feel like wallowing in self-pity today or something. That's what happens when I catch a glimpse of myself on the iSight.

OH, MAN it is SO beautiful outside! I just want to play hookie. 78 degrees and just a few little clouds... nice breeze... At least I have my window open by my desk.

After I finish Shirley's birthday present, and my sweater, I have a simple project I'm going to do. An iPod cozie. I need something besides a ziploc bag to carry things around in. Maybe I'll even try felting it!

Comments:
you should check out sarah's ipod cozy. it is super cute. and kinda deluxe - she added an accessory pocket. best of all she made it out of yarn that is on sale at skein lane. i will tell her to bring it on tuesday.

Enjoy the silence. I'm off to Texas for a week, and it is highly unlikely I will blog from there. Yee-haw!!

Wrong on so many levels. The kid dies - tragic - on popcorn at the movies - tragic - and he's only three years old. Tragic.
SO WHY WAS THIS KID AT ALIEN VS. PREDATOR???????
Sure, he could have died at The Country Bears and it would have been equally tragic.
My point: WHAT THE HELL ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE TAKING LITTLE KIDS TO THESE MOVIES THINKING??? And not (only) because little kids in movies can be irritating. They can, but when we go to see, say, The Incredibles (which I cannot wait for!), I expect little kids. I do not think it's okay for little kids to be at something scary or ultraviolent.
I could smack the couple who brought their two-ish little girl to go see Kill Bill and wouldn't take her out when she started crying. Of course she was freaked out! How selfish do you have to be to think, "Oh, I want to see this movie so of course I should take my little child with me."

I am shamelessly stealing this from a TMF board. It is not mine. But oh, I wish it was. I will definitely send this back to any relatives who send me any of those damn emails again.
I know this guy whose neighbor, a young man, was home recovering from having been served a rat in his bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. So anyway, one day he went to sleep and when he awoke he was in his bathtub and it was full of ice and he was sore all over. When he got out of the tub he realized that HIS KIDNEYS HAD BEEN STOLEN and he saw a note on his mirror that said, "Call 911!" But he was afraid to use his phone because it was connected to his computer, and there was a virus on his computer that would destroy his hard drive if he opened e-mail entitled "Join the crew!" He knew it wasn't a hoax because he himself was a computer programmer who was working on software to save us from Armageddon when the year 2000 rolls around. His program will prevent a global disaster in which all the computers get together & distribute the $600 Neiman Marcus cookie recipe under the leadership of Bill Gates. (It's true-I read it all last week in a mass e-mail from BILL GATES HIMSELF, who was also promising me a free Disney World vacation and $5,000 if I would forward the e-mail to everyone I know.) The poor man then tried to call 911 from a pay phone to report his missing kidneys, but reaching into the coin return slot he got jabbed with an HIV-infected needle around which was wrapped a note that said, "Welcome to the world of AIDS." Luckily he was only a few blocks from the hospital - the one, actually, where that little boy who is dying of cancer is, the one whose last wish is for everyone in the world to send him e-mail. The American Cancer Society has agreed to pay him a nickel for every e - mail he receives. I sent him two e-mails and one of them was a bunch of X's and O's in the shape of an angel (if you get it and forward it to twenty people you will have good luck, forward to ten people you will only have ok luck. And if you send it to less than ten people you will have BAD LUCK FOR SEVEN YEARS). So anyway the poor guy tried to drive himself to the hospital, but on the way he noticed another car driving along without his lights on. To be helpful, he flashed his lights at him and was promptly was shot as part of a gang initiation.

My brother's third cousin's ex-wife works with someone who knows that guy, so it's all absolutely true.

Forward this to 5 special women. It could SAVE THEIR LIVES.

New hairs. Almost all of the blue is gone -- just teeny bits on the tips. Also, it's cold again. At least to me. Guess I need to live it up since I'll be in Houston this time next week!

I'd forgot what you look like with brown hair!
Well, I suppose now no one's going to have a reason to point at you in the airport, unless you wear the FU I'm from TX t-shirt, of course.

$380. That's our water bill for the last two months. It's usually around $80, but there was a sprinkler system malfunction. Damn. $380. Hopefully, we can work this out somehow.

YAWN! Well, I'm about off to bed. But it was pleasant tonight (if downright surreal at times). And I got some good progress on the cardigan. G'night!

I'm afraid that I was a megabitch last week. I just couldn't picture a beer cozie for the life of me, and it just came off all wrong. But now that I see the pix... Genius! Absolute genius! I cannot wait to tell their creator what genius it is! Also, if there's a pattern, maybe I can make one for Aunt Beth? I need to learn about double-points sometime...
AND I finished the baby blanket. Finished it. Completely. I have a small ball of yarn left over, so I'll have to ask Claire if she's interested in any practice yarn.
So I'm down to the lacy mohair scarf I'm working on for Shirley, my beautiful cardigan that I will finish someday (the baby blanket has given me inspiration), some baby booties for the booty-along, and I have all the yarn together for my Audrey. Unfortunately, my boobs are too big to make the Audrey yet... I need to take a little off the top before I can fit into it comfortably. Either that, or it will be so tight I'll look like a fifties movie starlet without the bombshell hair and wasp waist. So, just from a boob standpoint.
Wanna see Audrey?

I'm on the fence about whether or not to do the Audrey Knit-A-Long, though. Maybe I should. Seems there's a lot of support out there for the Audrey knitting community. <grin>
Okay, I'm starving. That's enough for tonight.

It sounds like fun!

Oh, if you're taking orders, those beer cozies are fantasic! Not that we'd use them for beer. But soda cans & glasses in Texas sure could use them. hint, hint. :)

You keep this up & I'm going to have to learn to knit!

I am not rubbing it in. No, no I am not. I'm freezing here. Really. Please believe me.

I just looked at the weather in Dallas and it's 97 with a heat index of 101. The weather here, however, is 64 (if that) with a "grey, dank, and foggy-index" of maybe 57. Maybe lower. I'm freezing. Really. Don't envy me. I'm cold. And I just can't adjust to the lousy, grey days of summer when I'm so accustomed to the "OMG I think I'm going to f-ing melt" days of summer.

Oh, and I'm on this knit-a-long now... So I guess I need to whip out some baby booties for the up-coming Chuck-and-Carrie baby.

I LOVE the new design! Your bee is terribly cute! Oh, & I'm sure CnC will love the booties. =)
