It's a crazy Turkey-day! But not too crazy to do an update. Got the camera, which is too cute. It's smaller than my phone, but it doesn't have a lot of features (like zoom, for example). Still, I think I'll tote it around for a few days and see how I like it. Off to go. Mushroom stuffing needs supervision - Stevie's doing most of the work - then off to Napa to visit with Karen's family.

Well, well... It's been a long time since I've updated this, and lots has happened. MoMo and Jake did come to visit, which was lovely until MoMo got sick and had to go to the ER. Some sort of stomach problem. I spoke to her last night, and a week later she's finally stronger, though still gets tired very easily and needs lots of rest. Overall, the visit was quite nice. We went to Muir Woods and Stinson Beach, and visited the sea lions down on Pier 39. By Sunday evening, though, MoMo was quite unwell. Monday, after spending all day in the ER, Stevie and I had to go to SFO and convince the airlines to change her ticket. That's an hour and 45 minutes at the ticket counter, after 45 minutes on the phone at the house. Royal pain in the ass. But she got home okay, albeit woozy, and Molly and JR picked them up at the airport to transport them safely home.

Hmm, what else? I'm not blonde anymore. New hair-du-jour to come, once I get my NEW DIGITAL CAMERA!! Which should (hopefully) arrive tomorrow. Okay, I'm excited about having a new toy.

Turkey day is in a few short days, so I'm all ramped up to make lovely stuffing. Yum! We're going to Napa with Karen and James - to Karen's mom's house. I feel all special to be invited, I must admit, though I was ORIGINALLY looking forward to Molly and JR coming for Thanksgiving... Now they're coming for Christmas, though. All is well. Hopefully, we won't kill each other during that week. OH! And I just remembered something vital - Stevie needs to talk to JR about Tahoe. There. At least it's written down somewhere now.

I am freaking HAPPY!! I just got my care package, and all sorts of goodies inside. Three greeting cards, four mounting brackets, one fabulous roasting pan, two presents from Kimmy, my toiletry kit, and FOUR cans of Wolf Brand Chili. I feel so loved!

I gifted two of the cans of chili to the other former-Texas Xinetians - Jamie and Adam. Jamie's from Port Arthur, and his face just lit up when I left the can on his desk. No idea how Adam will react, though. Maybe (not being a native Texan) he won't truly appreciate the magic of Wolf Brand Chili. We'll see...

So, we're going to try to buy a domicile of some sort. Scott recommended a realtor, and Karen and I have a list of properties we want to tour. Should be an interesting experience. We won't be able to move forward until MoMo graduates and consolidates her loans, but there's no way we'd find something "just right" before then anyway. We have plenty of time to find the right place.

Also <singing>MoMo's coming over!</singing> tomorrow night, and I'm WAY looking forward to it. Had a few difficult conversations with my father over the past two weeks, too, but nothing horrible. Just a little painful, like a pinch. Of course, it's not going to just go away, either, so it's better that I tell him how I feel about things than just continuing to avoid him. It's much easier to avoid someone from 1500 miles away, I've noticed.

MoMo and Jake are coming this weekend! I'm freaking thrilled! I haven't seen them in about four months, and I've missed them terribly. That little man is almost FIVE years old. ACK!!

High drama on the parental front as well. Seems to have quelled for the moment. I hope so. As much as they annoy me, I sincerely want my father to be happy. I guess that's easier to say now that I'm 1500 miles away, though, so I don't have the "new family" right in front of me.

Doreen's still in the hospital, though I did get to talk with her this morning for awhile. The pain has subsided, and she's off the pain drugs. They're keeping her until Wednesday, though, which sucks because she was originally slated to go home today. She says it's been pouring and flooding there -- of course it's flooding! It's Houston!

I'm having some difficulties concentrating over the past week. I don't know if it's allergies, or just lethargy. I did feel a bit better after taking some sinus medicine last night, though, so for the moment I'm going with the former.

Went to get a manicure on Saturday. The manicurist was a tiny asian girl with itsy-bitsy hands. Those hands were strong as iron! There's a whole "hand massage" part of the manicure that I wasn't expecting, which in part is comprised of the manicurist vigorously rubbing lotion into the forearms.

In short, she was wanking my arms.

I got the giggles and almost lost it. I mean, how was I going to tell this girl that I was amused by her job? Not right at all. My hands look fabulous though. I tipped her extra for the giggles.

Snapshot: Stevie and I were driving home from work, and we pulled up next to a biker-looking guy in a big, beat-up, black truck. He had a long ZZ Top beard, worn leather jacket, and motorcycle goggles. In the backseat, his large shepherd-mix dog hung its head out the window. He looked like he only drove the truck when he couldn't ride his Hawg.

And blaring from his speakers: Jump in the Line by Harry Belafonte.

It was deliciously incongruous.
