Red is getting everywhere... It's on my hands, for example, and I don't remember touching my hair. I'm bringing a pillowcase and towel on our trip, so that I don't ruin any of Molly and JR's stuff. Maybe I should bring a pillow, too...

Get a last good look at the infrared. Because the Hair du Jour will change later on today.

House != yes. On the advice of our realtor, we are not putting in a bid on that house. Seems the seller has no intention of taking list (which is all we were willing to offer), and is expecting the price to bid up. Good for him if he gets it, but I'm inclined to doubt it. The market isn't what it was a few months ago.

Oh My God, Becky! We took K&J to look at that house, and they gave it a nod. Which was comforting, to have someone else look at it. I have a few questions - and the term "liquification zone" is a bit scary - but I'm waiting to hear back from our realtor to discuss it. If all works out, we'll put an offer in on Wednesday. The whole "liquification zone" thing actually isn't freaking me out as bad as you might think. Sure, it means we could fall into the ocean. But don't we have hazard insurance for that? <grin> Besides, we don't have the extraordinary cash (nor will we probably ever have the means) to get something that falls into a fire zone, instead of the standard "earthquake" zone.

A few things:
1 - I just tried Safari, and I think it sucks ass. On our iMac, it was very slow. So, it's back to Camino for me!
2 - Stevie's all puny. He's resting.
3 - Talked to Doreen, and she sounds good. A little stoned, probably from the pain medication, but good overall. Amazing, isn't it? She had brain surgery on Tuesday, and went home on Friday. Modern medicine sure is something...

Oh, one more thing... We got back the info from Mr. Mortgage Man, and as I suspected, we didn't qualify for enough to get a place that's worth getting. We're going to go look at one house again to be sure, and maybe that one will be worth a bid. I expect we'll be outbid, plus it's right next to the train... which can be quite loud, I understand. So, if we get it, then it's meant to be. Else, all is okay how things are, too.

New hair incoming! I just made an appointment at the fabulous new salon down the street from work - Barberella. Jenna has lovely white and burgundy streaks in her hair after visiting; Karen went there a few days ago and now sports lovely green locks. Gotta get me some of that. I am thinking something like this:

We'll just see how close to that Barberella can get.

Tomorrow morning, my aunt has brain surgery. I don't know how dangerous it is, because no one's given me odds. She's very upbeat, and in good spirits.

But I'm scared.

Another rousing day looking at open houses. And another house that we liked enough to be willing to put a bid on it. I think I'm going to call this week and just see how much we could prequalify for. Just to get the disappointment of realizing that we can't get squat over with because we have essentially no down payment.

Places where we're going to eat when we go home in May:
    Grandy's (I'm craving their rolls)
    KLA-zaa
    Rigatoni
    Texas Land and Cattle
    Chick-fil-A

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

We went to a few open houses today. Nothing that exciting. There was one little house that Stevie really liked. He said that if we were actually looking to get a house right now, then he would put an offer on it. High compliment from the boy on that one. But we're not really looking right now, nor will we be until September at the absolute earliest. That is unless the Fed drops rates again. If they go down below 4.5%, there is no way I will be able to resist that. Even if we're not quite ready, we'll go for it. Prime is about 5% right now (I think), so that would be a few meetings away to get there, barring anything unforseen. BTW, for these purposes, the war is foreseen.

Updates! I'm no longer sick, though I was a tad puny yesterday. Karen and James's car was recovered yesterday morning, unscathed. I gotta get that girl a "Club". The new iMac came earlier this week, and Stevie likes it a lot. He's applied to school at a local community college, but no word back on that. My tax return is a WEEK LATE, and I'm hoping that I didn't do anything wrong on it. They were complicated this year, no doubt. I'm not worried about being told that we owe them money, because we had such a huge refund coming, but I am wondering when we'll get that money from them. I was planning to use some of it to pay for our trip home in May. PLUS, I might need some of it to visit Doreen after her surgery on 17 March.

Home sick today. I think I'm much better now. I was all snotty (in a sinus-y way, not a personality way) last night, so I decided to take some decongestant. Big mistake. I just can't tolerate the pseudoephedrine in the normal "take-as-directed" dosage. Not only did I wake up (well, I kind of woke up) with a very sore throat, I was totally convinced it was strep. Then, I drifted back into some of the most fucked-up dreams I have had in a long time. Including one where Karen, Molly, and I were at this big coliseum filled with people, and we were there for literally hundreds of years. OH, and Molly only spoke Portuguese, which made things more difficult on the two of us. We had these fabulous big flowy clothes, too, in rich satins. Iridescent and very theatrical, but we were in the audience, so far from the stage in the center we couldn't tell what was going on. The audience changed over time - peasants, wealthy, middlin'. By a few hundred years in, with people coming and going, we were totally on each others' nerves, Portuguese and all. THEN, for some reason, it was the end of the world. Not in a Revelations way, just the end. And we just died there, still bickering, not afraid at all.

Goal change. My goal is no longer to lose weight. There. I said it. My goal is to exercise more and be healthier. And if I'm healthy as a size 14, then so be it.

Yuck. Karen and James's car was stolen from outside their apartment last night. Damned inconvenient for them.

And one more tidbit, while I'm thinking about it. There's nothing quite like lying in bed and surfing. Gotta love that wireless network.

An update on our 5-year plan: Our 5-year plan used to include buying a house. No longer. We will have one someday, but not within 5 years. Stevie's going back to school, and he'll most likely go for his masters as well. If he does that, then there's no indication that he'll want to get his masters in the Bay Area, and we'll have to move for that. It depends on what branch of History he wants to specialize in, of course. After that, maybe he'll get his PhD (we'll have to see what happens). Only after his 9-to-10 years of education are completed will I be ready to consider purchasing a home. Before that, we don't know where we should settle down.

I sure do hope that some day, when it's finally done and released, that someone actually buys "The Evil". Because I would hate to think that I'm loving on something that won't make it.
