Sunday Bloody Sunday just randomly popped up on my iPod. Uncanny. And here's something else to getcha warmed up for tonight.

I shouldn't have been surprised by this, but I was. A helpful soul on a board I read mentioned that the robots.txt file for whitehouse.gov disallows searchengines to read / index anything about Iraq. A slew of directories with "iraq" in the name have been explicitly listed as non-indexable. Though a cursory sample of these directories seems to show that many (if not all) of the "iraq" directories do not exist on the server at all (such as /holiday/2003/cards/truman/iraq. that would have been a weird combination there.) Why deny them if they don't exist? In case they might exist in the future? That's just crappy administration... Ha! Crappy system administration in a crappy presidential administration!

Comments:
LOL. Seems to be in line with the current administration's modus operandi.

You obviously just don't understand; it's just a question of security, silly girl. It's not really important that they don't exist, but that we are all safer if they deny access to them.

uhmf, you active as if you've never heard of pre-emptive action. ;) piddly-snort.

Stressful day is over. Knitting evening will begin shortly. Playing with the camera in my new phone, and here's the pic I took last night when Bonnie went after my sock-in-progress.
She's fond of the Addi Turbos, that's for sure. They look like shiny toys.

Just another Manic Tuesday. Damn. It is crazy busy up here at work. I definitely need some Mel-O-Dee time.
Also, toe-up socks are amazing. Seriously. Much easier than top-down. I think I have found a new pet project to replace the dishcloths.

Tonight's the first of my sock classes. First of two. Toe-up socks. Should be interesting, since it seems just like magic that some of this works in the first place. Like turning a heel.
The one-on-one sweater finishing with the delightful Amy of ArtFibers was very educational. Very enlightening. And I actually made a little blob with seams that don't show from the outside. I also brought home two balls of fabulous Kyoto and one that isn't on their webside -- it's made of stainless steel and cotton. I'm going to make a skinny-skinny scarf from it to go with my less-than-swanlike neck. It's totally cool stuff. That place is dangerous, I tell you!
After that class, though, I'm feeling much more confident about my cardigan turning out okay.
I need to get some pix of the socks up here, too!

It has been a retail-therapy kind of day. We got some new games for Stevie - including that Rome: Total War he's been waiting on forever. The Star Wars DVDs. Bath salts. And I resisted getting this from Coach. I mean, really. How could I justify that kind of money for a handbag. Still... it's lovely. Definitely a lottery-win item.

Time asks Jon Stewart: "DOES IT WEIRD YOU OUT THAT PEOPLE TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY AS A POLITICAL PUNDIT?" Well, it weirds me out that I just read the phrase "weird you out" in a question posed by Time Magazine. It's a funny article, though, with one of my two favorite quotes of the day from Mr. Stewart (re: the current administration): "And as far as I'm concerned, their best argument for election is, Yes, I drove us into a brick wall. But I didn't blink!" Heh. My other favorite quote for the day is from John Kerry: "But I have news for President Bush: just because you can’t do something, doesn’t mean it can’t be done."
It's getting harder not to bitch about politics here. Maybe I should stick to yarn.

Comments:
So my question is *why* avoid bitching about politics here. And if not here, where?

Just a thought. =)

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." As an example of this in my own life, I present to you "crapulence". Yes, "crapulence". Just when you think you know a word, you discover that you don't. And that "crapulence" does NOT mean "the quality of seriously sucking" but in fact means "sickness caused by excessive eating or drinking." As in "Yesterday at work was heavy on the crapulence." It would sound like I'm saying "Damn! My workday was full of of tasks/people/situations that suck," when in fact I'm saying (accurately), "Boy, there sure was some serious after-work drinking going on for yesterday's birthday party."
And why did I look this up? Today on the way to work, we saw a bumper sticker that said "Resist Crapulence." I went looking for one online, and this is what I came back with.
I liked the sticker better with my incorrect definition of crapulence!
Another thing before I get down to some serious working: for date night last night, we saw Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (beware: very Flash-y site). First, about the film. Beautifully done. A bit slow in the middle. Heavy on the "what does it mean to be human" thing that is core to GITS overall. Second about the audience. Damn. Some of the dorkiest dorks that ever dorked were there -- a few beardos, one guy who droned on endlesslly about how he "hated everyone in the entire world" (grow out of it, dude. you appear to be in your thirties already!), and the guy next to me who loudly cried "YES!" at various parts during the film. So, my vote: if you're any flavor of anime geek, definitely worth the view on the big screen. But unless you're a HARD-CORE anime geek... maybe downtown Berkeley isn't the best place to view it. Of course, the other option we had was the Kabuki, which may well have been just as dork-a-licious.

today i read a brief in which one side accused the other of being "blunderbuss." specifically, they said the other side had made a "blunderbuss argument." which is interesting, since "blunderbuss" isn't an adjective. it's a noun which, ironically, means "a clumsy or stupid person."

p.s. thanks for solving my blogger problem!!

I am so glad to see this. I lost many an hour of my youth playing this damn game, but I did eventually win it... thanks in part to Dennis. Dennis and Anna's website is here, though it doesn't seem to have been updated recently.
On another note -- the sweater class at ArtFibers was cancelled. Seems I'm the only one that signed up. So I now have a credit. Do I spend it on private lessons? Or on some lovely lovely Kyoto?

So, I know you absolutely do not have enough knitting projects & I'm such the helpful friend.

I saw this Hogwart's scarves link posted on rebecca's pocket and thought of you. She also has links for Elizabethan hose & "Handmade knitted edible panties".

Knitting is taking over my life, at least according to my iCal. Saturday's the Deep Color open house (thanks, Cheryl, for the link!), which I really must drop by since it's another within-walking-distance LYS and all granola. Sunday, I'm taking the sweater finishing class at ArtFibers. Monday, I'm taking a sock class at Skein Lane. Tuesday night, knitting circle at the Mel-O-Dee. Ack! That's a lot of scheduled knitting!

To felt or not to felt? I admit, I've been seriously looking at that the French Market bag on Knitty lately. I think it would be so nice to carry down to the farmer's market on Saturday mornings, that sort of thing. Cheryl's latest post on felting, plus our discussions on it last night, are just fixating me even more. But that one will just have to wait a bit, because I already have so many projects queued up:
  • Stripey top-down socks - 75% complete
  • Wool/silk cardigan - 50% complete
  • Sock class toe-up socks - 0%
  • Audrey - 0%
  • Chinese cashmere hat - 0%
And I'm nowhere near as productive as Ms. Cheryl.
I get two weeks-ish on those new socks, so that should be interesting. But I don't see how I'm going to get out the door of ArtFibers this weekend without some serious stash enhancement.

There are TWO turtles in that shark/tuna tank at Monterey. Not just the one we saw. And they both like to block the webcam. Good thing I love turtles!!

Taking a class tomorrow at ArtFibers. It's essentially an "Oh My God now I have really screwed up what do I do now?" class, tastefully called "Understanding and Correcting Knitting Errors". We'll see how it goes. At the very least I'll get to play with some new yarns.

Playing hooky. At least, that's what we did yesterday. We had to go to Monterey to see this amazing girl. And she was amazing. Amazing amazing amazing. I am in love. If you can possibly get to Monterey, why haven't you gone yet? Once in a lifetime opportunity, people.
On the suck side of the equation, I'm working on Saturday. But at least I'm getting lots done. Back to work now!

Some days, you just want an excuse to be lazy. I think I might be having one of those days. At any rate... at least I can do a little bit o' catching up here.

ONE: The concert on Sunday was great. Beautiful weather, a great set list, and just a splash of Carlos Santana to round things out. After an adventure on the N Judah getting back to BART, we eventually dragged back into EC Plaza around 8ish. I actually have a teeny bit of a tan... kinda. At least a tan line from my sunglasses on the left side of my face. It was a beautiful, amazing day. AND... if you ever hear someone say they saw a crazy chick KIP on a hill at that concert, it was me. Finishing up the gold scarf.
TWO: I'm all blogline-a-fied. Check out the link on the left.
THREE: No more work on the sock since that pic. It's a good pic, though. <grin>
FOUR: I left my iPod at home. Makes it hard to get anything done for some reason.
FIVE: Back to our N Judah adventure, I need to go see if there are any MC's on craigslist re: Kimmy. She had those boys eating out of the palm of her hand... literally. She gave them all gum.

Is it possible that I have finally found a sweater pattern appropriate for little Stevie? Something simple and wearable that looks good on him as well? The answer could be this pattern from the new knitty. Which, BTW, I think is way great and much better than the summer knitty. Though, maybe I just like fall patterns better?

Oh,I like it! I think it will look really nice on lil' Stevie. Good call!

It's all about the FO's. This weekend I finished Shirley's birthday present, and I only have about a foot left on Erica's Christmas present. I also got some reasonably good progress on my first sock. I guess I'll put up a picture soonish on that as well. No work on the cardigan, though. Too damn hot for that!

I overslept this morning... Of course. So much for my big "work out every day in September" plan. But wait, the day is still young! I will do some exer-ma-cizing done when I get home from physical therapy, before dinner, and definitely before knitting. Speaking of which, I was definitely disappointed that Ms. Cheryl didn't make it last night for the knit-group. I want to get a look at the sweater she's working on. I did have a great success -- thank you, Ingrid! -- with dpns last night. Maybe I will attempt to conquer those socks sometime soonish. After that glam scarf is finished and I get Shirley's birthday present in the mail.
