BART has been a mixed bag this week. There have been some major delays, one of which led me to just abandon the whole train concept and take the ferry over to the godforsaken island for Stephen to pick me up. On the other hand, yesterday morning there was the most adorable pug in a pet carrier, and he was sleeping with his little pink tongue hanging out. It doesn't quite make up for the hours of delay... but it did take the edge off.
Also, the people that I encountered on the ferry fiasco were so amazingly nice. When I asked "how much is the ferry", a complete stranger offered to buy my ticket if I didn't have enough money (I did). Then, out of nowhere, ANOTHER kind stranger bought tickets for BOTH of us. We gave one of the aforementioned strangers a ride home from the godforsaken island over to Emeryville. It was also really beautiful watching the sun go down behind the city and the stormclouds beyond. Like the pug, it didn't quite make up for the long delay... but it took the edge off.

So... sore.... For some reason, the soreness that was only bothering my feet has managed to move into my legs. Possibly because in my hurry to catch the train, I keep running up the stairs at BART. Possibly.
So, here we are. Two weeks into the new gig. It's starting to feel a little less like drinking from a firehose. More like drinking from a beer bong that's been hooked up to a municipal water tower.

If any of the four people who actually subscribe to this blog get spammed like crazy by their RSS aggregator... Well, I'm sorry. I had to add the blog disclaimer for my new employer to the site, and while I'm in there, why not fix the archives that have been broken for months? Publish, publish, and republish trying to get it right. Seems better now, though. The archives are now listed down the sidebar. June of 2002? That's a lot longer than I expected to have this blog. I think that knitting probably kept it from dying altogether.

This morning, we went out to run errands. Stephen is feeling puny, so we hit the drugstore and, since we're RIGHT HERE ANYWAY, the bookstore. As we walked in the door, the shoplifting alarm went off. Freep! We tried it again -- FREEP! A-ha! One of us was obviously sporting a renegade RFID tag that was tripping it off. Nope, not me. Stephen. Turns out there was an RFID tag embedded into a label sewed into his new jeans. So, note to you all -- when you buy clothing, make sure you check the inside for a tag that says "remove before wearing". Otherwise, the bookstore staff will have to come investigate every time you get too close to the exit and FREEP!
The good thing - this tag survived washing no problem, and was soft and relatively flexible. Yes, it was definitely passive, but you know where I'm going with this, Mol...

Oh, DAMN! That's great. Do you know who the manufacturer is or the distributor? We need to find them.

Everything you buy at Banana Republic, Club Monaco, etc. contains these tags now. I had the same problem with a J.Jill dress, which is why I've known about them for years...

Two out of three, back to Zappos you go. The pink Timberlands are adorable, but honestly... would I ever wear them? Ever? Probably not. And the rain boots were all gappy at the top. How could they keep rain out with so much room around the ankles? I'm trying a different kind this time, so maybe that will work.

In-between days. Today is the first of my in-between days, wherein I am in-between jobs. New one starts next week, and with it comes a new commute (on the train, so hopefully not so bad). Karen's insights on walking in the rainy city gave me an excuse to get another pair of shoes - some low rain boots this time. Oh, and another pair of Docs while I'm in there... and aren't those pink Timberlands amazing? Damn you, Zappos! OTOH, I bought and returned an amazing but too-small pair of Fluevog boots via Zappos, and their customer service totally rocks. Two thumbs up.
Speaking of Fluevogs... OMFG these boots are calling to me. The problem, of course, is that they probably are for the skinny-calved. I might pop by and try them on, though, just to satisfy my curiosity...

I gave up ice cream for Lent. I thought about coffee, but honestly, that's already an 'every now and then' thing for me. Kind of cheating.
Of course, I'm having coffee now. Hmm...
Other candidates were french toast, chocolate, fried food, surfing on the couch, beer, and online shopping. These were all rejected -- ha!

Funny, I was just wondering today what you'd be giving up.

Ice cream, huh?

Can't recall the last time I saw you eat ice cream. :-P
