Holy crap! I just heard that the double-payroll is on purpose. It's a bonus for end of fiscal year. Woo-hoo! It pays for the recent spree I went on, getting a new iMac for Stevie and an iPod for me. Kick-ass!

This can't be right. I just checked my bank account online, and it looks like I got paid twice. Odd. Well, p-V used to do that all the damn time, and then there would be "deposit" followed by "retraction". It made for messy statements. First time it's happened here, though. I guess it must be easy to do.

My favorite part of this picture is the license plate. I love the thought of that license plate on that car. Also, it's nice to know that someone else loves it like it should be loved. I loved that car. It's good to know it has a good home.

The world has been warned: I'm giving up Diet Dr. Pepper for Lent this year. It's going to be a rough one.

I must look like crap. People keep asking me if I'm sick, if I'm having chest pains, if I feel okay. I'm glad they're concerned, but damn!

Molly's reference to Diane Rehm reminded me of Chris's impression of her: Hello, this is Diane Rehm. And if I don't drop dead in the next thirty seconds, I'll tell you why Republicans are evil.

Do you think that some people only have a finite amount of love in them? And that those people can only love (or really like, or even just enjoy) only so many things simultaneously? If someone like that hears a new song that they enjoy, does another get popped off the "like" stack?

I'd hate to be like that.

On a completely unrelated note, I bought tickets for me and Stevie to go home in May for MoMo's graduation. We'll be there for a week-ish, and then there's the lovely Memorial Day weekend to recover upon return. Whew!

On a slightly related note, I found some old pictures last night, including one of me at Matt C's wedding. I looked pretty good. Not skinny, but certainly a healthy weight. I think I'll make that my goal weight. It's not outrageous, like wanting to be the same size I was in high school.

I had no idea that my camcorder had an infrared option. Totally cool. Check out how much I actually do look like my sister. Who knew? Check out the newly-discovered family resemblance here.

Oh, and did I mention this? We get Monday off as a holiday. No kidding. First MLK, now President's Day. WTF? It's our last long weekend until Memorial Day, but it that's fabulous with me. The whole concept of a day off is still fresh and dewy!

Love is in the air... I've been out of work for the past few days, ostensibly sick but I have to accept that there may have been some PMS mixed up in that making it more severe. I'm glad to be back at work though, and out of the house. Lots of work still needs to be done on The Evil this week, since I've been about useless thus far. Hopefully, I'm coming out of this funk. Stevie said he'd get me a flower today, and I'm looking forward to that.

unset $job. Turns out, they only wanted him if he would make a long-term commitment. Now, I'm not totally sure about how I feel about a temp company that wants to place people in a 12-month commitment. I mean, a contract firm, maybe. But a temp firm? Feels a bit icky. Anyway, he's not going to take the job because they wanted a long-term commitment from him and he's going back to school in September. So, no job. No biggie. Things are still good for us. Now, maybe he'll have the time to go take a few catch-up classes this summer.

That thing about Roseanne is KILLING me! I don't want to think about it.

Ahhh... The caffeine has settled into my system nicely. Now for the shocking news:

Stevie has found a job.

He's going to work first shift at a pharmaceutical company in Hayward (yuk! crappy commute!). He's only going to work there for a few months, though, because he has assured me that he's going back to school in the fall. I'm proud of him for going back. It's an opportunity to take his hobby - history - and turn it into a job. Admittedly, there's not a lot of work out there for history majors, but I'm not looking for a sugar daddy. I'm looking for his happiness. And if he can make a career of being an author or a researcher, then I know that he'll find happiness in his work.

Still a little puny, but not full-on miserable. My caffeine hasn't kicked in yet, either, so I'm just trying to stay focused. Maybe another espresso... Naahhhh. I know that certainly isn't a good idea.

WTF was up with Joe Millionaire last night. I can't believe they conned half the country into watching a clip show. What a rip!

Ahhh... Hat, scarf, and a decaf latte. Nice and cozy despite the chill.

Ironically, it's something like 65° outside. No fair!

It is so freaking cold at my desk I'm wearing a scarf! New A/C unit comes in 18 February. I'm counting down the days...

After a slightly puny, lazy weekend, back at the office. I need to set some goals for this week, and get going on them. My confidence is shot so far today, but maybe all I really need is some more caffeine!

If you haven't seen this yet, what's holding you up? The first teaser installment from The Animatrix is beautiful, disturbing, alluring. Oh, and the high-bandwidth one is about 140MB, so you have been warned!

From here on out, my work project will be named "The Evil". Not internally, but if I reference it here. Make a note of it.

Reason: it's certainly evil. And I'm working on what I anticipate is the most evil part of it. All this for something that will never be seen by the outside world. <sigh>

OH! I forgot to mention this. Lying in bed Saturday morning, listening to NPR coverage of the Columbia tragedy, and I felt my very first earthquake! Well, the first I was awake for. It was strange, like something had hit the house, and very brief, maybe a second. But I still managed to be awake for one, and I'm glad for that.

Ever read that email that went around about someone moving up to, say, Wisconsin for the first time? They start out talking about the beauty of the deer and snowfall, and by the end of the "diary" (which takes about four months) they're bitching about the snow and the damn deer and freezing their asses off. I'm sure that's what I'm headed for with the quakes. Some day, I'll be talking about how they're so terrible, and how frightened I was after a big quake. For the moment, though, I still thought it was cool.

There's nothing even remotely worthwhile I can say about the tragedy this weekend. So I'm not going to try.

It is amazing that it's been 17 years since the Challenger, though. Damn! that is a long time.
