#hugops to the team at @TexasTribune – everyone (including me) is slamming their site to get more info on this terrible story. I know they must be feeling the pressure to keep up with this spike and get us all the info. 💔 https://twitter.com/TexasTribune/status/1167921454161072132

@Blackamazon Yeah… Just awful. And like sloppy-awful. Not funny-awful.

@Blackamazon OH MY GOD IT IS REAL. https://t.co/94vamQFWd4
@Blackamazon I keep thinking this is not actually real. Is this actually real?

@neurodynamicdev Alas, no. Enforceability of all of these varies significantly from state to state. When reviewing an offer with these kinds of terms, I *always* recommend getting advice from an employment attorney. The company may not budge, but at least you’ll understand what you’re signing.

@ferlatte Most companies (IMO) err on the side of too-opaque, and would benefit from opening up more. It’s a journey.
@ferlatte Having consistency is vital for a successful org to run well. Retrofitting full transparency is hard-to-impossible in some orgs, esp w/ lots of specialties. While powerful, it also reduces flexibility.
@chriscantino @EricaJoy @supermakerus That’s an excellent article! We also have some great posts about this on our @compa_as blog: https://www.compa.as/blog/tag/pay-transparency
Agreed! Plus, pay transparency is a journey. Not every company can/should publish salaries. That’s not for everyone. But EVERY employee should know why they make what they make, how that tracks against company policy, and how they can earn more. https://twitter.com/ferlatte/status/1166734952035020801
Seriously it wasn’t even a very long piece for so many errors. I’m disappointed, @marketplace.
Finally, a stat at the end of the story – 40% of employees think they are underpaid – is misleading. The study from @payscale notes that this the case when there is little pay transparency. Again, revisit those practices!
This is a systemic, serious issue that cuts across industries. FFS, @Marketplace – you’ve reported on the Gender Pay Gap! You know better than this.
