OH! I forgot to mention this.

Lying in bed Saturday morning, listening to NPR coverage of the Columbia tragedy, and I felt my very first earthquake! Well, the first I was awake for. It was strange, like something had hit the house, and very brief, maybe a second. But I still managed to be awake for one, and I’m glad for that.

Ever read that email that went around about someone moving up to, say, Wisconsin for the first time? They start out talking about the beauty of the deer and snowfall, and by the end of the “diary” (which takes about four months) they’re bitching about the snow and the damn deer and freezing their asses off. I’m sure that’s what I’m headed for with the quakes. Some day, I’ll be talking about how they’re so terrible, and how frightened I was after a big quake. For the moment, though, I still thought it was cool.
